The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VA sports the same bright lens and image sensor as the RX100 V, with improvements limited to its menu system and JPG engine.

Larger sensor than smartphones. Wide aperture lens. Speedy autofocus and burst shooting. In-lens neutral density filter. 4K video.

Restricted functionality after long bursts and slow-motion video capture. Not a touch screen. Expensive.
I purchased both the RX100 V and the VI. Used them both in Europe for 3 weeks. I liked both, but loved the V. Key differences:1. ND filter - included on the v and not on the vi - made a huge difference when taking outdoor shots.2.
Over the years I have purchases RX100s for travel to take along with my Fuji cameras. The RX100 goes in my shirt pocket and I have found that I pull it out on the streets of Rome, Paris, Fez, Barcelona all the time. But when get home I sell them and just use my Fuji cameras.
I have several Nikon APS-C sensor cameras and a couple of really good lenses that I use when I go out to make art. I Love these Nikon cameras. I bought the Sony RX100 VA (after months of ruminating and research) to replace my old pocket camera (Olympus XZ-1) that I liked to carry all the time.
I bought this camera to replace my old Canon G4, which I used for vacations, street photography and any other time I don't want to be weighed down with a DSLR sized equipment. After a week of using the RX100 V in Paris I have to say this has been a great investment.
I have been a DSLR user for several years, but since just one I have been involved in underwater photography as a complement to my diving hobby. I have used the GoPro Hero 4 that I find very good for video, but I wanted better results and more control in photography.
Has all the functions of the mid range DSLR + the panorama ability, although a bit unreliable in the pan function 1 out of 4 or 5 tries on panorama didn't take. Documentation and menu choices are a small problem in that there are some functions not very intuitive and the online (downloaded) user...
Camera has sharp imaging.pdf manual is virtually impossible. My lightroom 5 refuses to recognize the Sony ARW(raw) file.Viewfinder is tiny.
