Compared to the Sony ECM-XM1 (which I have used for several years), the ECM-VG1 is marginally superior in that it has a low-cut switch to help minimize low frequency rumble. Otherwise I do not detect any significant difference when mounted on a video camera.
The SONY ECM-VG1 is an excellent microphone. The quality is far better than some of the more expensive other brands. I used it in a wedding shoot this past weekend and it far exceeded my expectations.
Just the right size for my camcorder, wonderful sound quality, and actually very good outdoors in the wind. Cant go wrong.
Mates to the camera and gives adequate coverage for natural sound. Some things just aren't flashy by nature. What counts is that it fits the Sony cam mounts and works fine.
Good sensitivity and sound clarity for the price. I like the added plastic sleeve that helps hold it secure on my camera.
If there are multiple sound sources, it tends to garble them all into one terrible recording. I was using a Sony, PXW-Z90V, and it drains the battery about 1-2% per minute of use. It also doesnt fit well on the camera extension that is made for it. Even with the spacer, it still wobbles a lot.
I use the ECM-VG1 shotgun mic with a Sony PXW-Z150. I nearly got another Audio Technica ATR-875R, but that would have meant getting another fuzzy and this comes with (as pictured). The surprise?
I'm really happy with this microphone I use it with my Sony camcorder DSR PD 170p sounds very good I'm really going to buy again from this site
Great product, easy to hook up and picks up sound very well. Never can go wrong with Sony.
This is a decent shotgun mic for a decent price. The low pass filter works well to get rid of a lot of enviornmetal noise both outside and inside. It works much better than the onboard mics.
