(24mm, F2.8, 1/60, ISO 100) As a standard zoom lens, the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM is certainly top notch. It doesn't have that charisma of the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 or the Sony 85mm F1.4 GM that you immediately see as soon as you take your first shot.

The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM is a premium standard zoom lens for Sony mirrorless cameras that delivers strong image quality, but shows some distortion.

Pricey., Noticeable distortion., Omits image stabilization.
A 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens is the workhorse for many professional photographers and aspiring amateurs alike. And no camera system is competitive without such a lens delivering very good optical quality.
When we first heard news of the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM, we knew it was a lens that had great promise. After extensive testing, both in the field and the lab, I’m pleased to report it’s exceptionally sharp and has been optimised by Sony’s engineers to resolve sensational detail in combination with Alpha...

Lens Extents while focusing, Pricey
As I said in the beginning of the review, Sony gained renown for their cameras, especially their sensor technology, before their lenses. Using Canon lenses with adapters was what many serious photographer using Sony cameras chose to do.
The Sony G Master range is described as a “supreme blend of high resolution and beautiful bokeh” which will match current and even future trends with high resolution sensors. This is a very desirable combination of properties if it can be achieved, especially with such a useful, bright f/2.8...
I knew right from the start that reviewing this lens would not be an easy task. Would I end up rejecting it because of its size and weight or would I transcend the “mirrorless camera = small” concept and appreciate the qualities it has to offer? I admit that it is a tough call.
Sony's marketing made some pretty aggressive statements at the time of the announcement of their new GM lineup. The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is the first GM lens that we tested here and while we are impressed by the quality, it didn't really blow off our socks either.
Most photographers will find the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens to be a versatile ‘walkaround’ lens that is a good match for Sony’s α7 ‘full frame’ camera bodies. Its wide maximum aperture makes it ideal for low light use and also for isolating subjects from distracting backgrounds.
The 24-70 GMaster 2.8 lens is bulky but I can live with that. What I can't live with is how grainy and not sharp all of my shots are coming out! I have the 24-70 G Zeiss and love it. Maybe there's something wrong with it. Software was up to date. Needs steady shot!
This is one of my favourite lenses. Arguably the f4 24-105 has higher resolving power for the 60Megapixels of the mkIV a7 but to be honest Ive not noticed too soft details from my photos.

Very easy to use, great bokeh and fantastic contrast. One of the best lenses out there

Notable drop off on the corners when wide open and zoomed back to 24mm. Large Heavy
I’ve used the same focal length lens from Canon (24-70mm f/ 2.8) with a metabones adapter for my Sony A7III and used the newly bought Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens. Of course focusing will be vastly different since one of the lens is used with an adapter.
These lenses, are absolutely all around the do-it-all lens! Can't imagine doing any events, travel, landscape or video without them!Yes, they are pricy, but what you'll get in return is a fast, sharp and tough piece of equipment that Sony shooter can't be without!

Pricey and little heavy.
This zoom is that it is so darn good that you will often be compelled to use it instead of your f/2 primes. It feels a bit heavy when you first mount it (especially if you just unmounted a tiny prime) but that perception disappears very quickly with use.
This lens is sharp from corner to corner. Very minimal distortion at the wide end. Great glass comes at a price though, this G Master is extremely heavy and a little too expensive, but there are no other native options for a 24-70 F2.8. Alas, I love it.
The 24-70 has always been my workhorse lens for weddings. After switching to Sony from Canon is was time to get this guy! Does not disappoint. The zoom is tight when moving it but that seems to be more common with the Sony G lenses over my previous Canon glass.
I bought this lens before having a full frame camera, but thinking that I would replace my APS-C one as soon a as I could. Finally, I bought a 7RM4, and tried the lease in both cameras. I was surprised by the resolution extent given in my AOS-c, and completely astonished, when I used it on my 7RM4.
This lens is great. I haven't played with it too much yet, but from what I did, the pics were great. The colors were vibrant, crisp and clear. I didn't see a reason to edit them. It's a little heavier than I thought it would be. I'm very happy with it.
I have recently move to Sony after 16+ years as a pro Canon user. I sold my first canon lens - the 24-70 f.8 L when moving to Sony. The Sony lens is incredible sharp and along with the eye focus, is amazing. Id recommend this lens to everyone as a base lens!
