The cylindrical SRS-XB23 is smaller and more convenient than its big brothers. But it lacks a bit of sound.
-
+
With a little adjustment, the sound is quite engaging, with a rich bass that does not dominate too much.
-
-
Slow charging. The speaker requires sound tuning to sound good.

June 13, 2020 – Sony’s punchy new XB23 EXTRA BASS portable Bluetooth (BT) sound tube is a worthy competitor in the jungle of similar products, and at about $100, it is priced right. Compact and lightweight, default settings provide the EXTRA BASS function.

Nearly every manufacturer has ventured into the world of wireless portable speakers but only a few managed to stand out. Include Sony in that list, since the company has continuously offered different wireless speaker lineups that come in different sizes and features.

Where Sony have set themselves apart is the great battery life, great sound that can be tuned to your needs and a chassis that will almost certainly take a beating. Coming in at $159.00 it’s a great investment for someone looking for a really good, portable speaker without spending the earth.

Now, comparisons with Ultimate Ears and JBL are inevitable. Frankly, these occupy different niches. First, it’s a Sony, and that counts. Next, these are, in my opinion, quite a step up from the 20190 range in terms of audio quality.

+
Mono or stereo or stereo pair, Rugged and waterproof, Lights on XB-33 and XB43 add fun, One of the better and more flexible apps

The entry-level Sony SRS-XB23 boasts a new design that moves the passive radiators to the top and bottom of the speaker with promising results. It doesn’t have the best sound quality in its class, but despite that it seems like an affordable outdoor speaker that most people will love.

Good sound quality..., Competitive price, Stereo pairing and Party Mode

...but not the absolute best, Lower peak volume, Unclear battery level alerts
I recently tried the XB23 Extra Bass Portable Bluetooth Speaker and love it! The sound and quality of this speaker is great! I currently use this speaker in my office and use it to listen to both music and audio books. The sound is outstanding no matter what I listen to.
It is so easy to setup, it has speaker phone capability, it has a button to know the battery percentage, control the volume and party connect (i dont use this one yet) let me tell you, after been listen to my music just with my tablet and now with the speaker is huge difference, better sound, I can...
I charged this up and linked it to my phone and then tested it. Wow! Great clean crisp sound with great bass. It's light weight and easy to carry. I haven't tested how waterproof it is and don't plan to so I'll have to take their word on that. This is a well made speaker from a reputable company.
This is the best portable Bluetooth speaker I’ve ever owned! It has super clear sound and also has great base for such a reasonable size. It isn’t too large and clunky and I take it with me everywhere. The sound also travels well and can be used to play music throughout a large area!
I got the Sony XB23 Extra Bass Portable Bluetooth Speaker to use in our garage for when we entertain. It works great and has good sound! We also plan to use it this next summer for poolside parties. I am very happy with the quality of this bluetooth speaker!
Great sound with plenty of base for a smaller speaker
