In the intro, I said that the STR-DH590 is designed for someone like me, "at least on paper." After putting this receiver through its paces, I can say that it's also true in practice. Okay, maybe it's not ideal for me literally, since I already own large four-ohm tower speakers.

There is something about the STR-DH590 that feels very complete. It is abundantly clear that Sony put a lot of time and effort into making this receiver an extremely versatile device.

I purchased this amp about three weeks ago to replace a Yamaha amp that had a video card failure. I was skeptical of this unit because I’ve had no experience with Sony audio equipment. I can tell you that I am pleasantly surprised! This unit has less distortion than the Yamaha and more features.

Previous to this purchase, I had the Pioneer VSX-532 it was good unit but I just wasn't satisfied for somethings that were annoying that the Pioneer had. So I decided to sell the Pioneer and purchase the Sony Receiver. Which I'm extremely happy and satisfied.

For the price it's ok. I feel restricted on being able to tailor the sound the way I would like it to sound. The preset sound choices are the only way to change how the audio sounds. No bass, treble, mid-range alterations. Other than that, it's a nice product. Works the way it was designed to.

Would definitely recommend this receiver, sounds great when watching movies and regular television. Sounds even better when listening to music via bluetooth.

We have an older TV and an older DVD/CD player and older Polk speakers. This receiver connected easily to all devices. Everything performs well. Only downside is yet another remote. Also still need to figure out how to just turn the TV on with only TV speakers without always firing up the receiver.

Exactly what I expected. I started with sound bars w wireless subwoofers for my bedroom TV but I was not happy with how any of them sounded, all had highs and lows but no mids at all.

Yes I do love it, the sound is clear, loud and wonderful! I can listen to my movies in surround sound everything on TV is much better with this beautiful sound, even commercials sound good! All I guess if you want sweet clear beautiful sound, by this receiver.

Easy set up. Instructions are easy to follow. Make sure you have your HDMI cables and optical audio cable if needed.

What I love about this unit versus the unit it replaced is that it works perfectly with my Sony Bravia Ultra HD Smart TV and TV remote. Pick a source, click on your desired type of provider (e.g. BR/DVD or Cable/Sat) and you are good to go.
