Now, speaking about money – the suggested retail price of the tested lens amounts almost to $1800. Taking into account the fact that its much weaker predecessor not so long ago cost $1700 it's not that bad.

The original Sony FE 85mm F1.4 G Master lens was so good it was pretty hard to fault; but it was launched back in 2016, and a lot has happened in lens design since then. As a result, the new Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is a long way from just a simple makeover.

Edge-to-edge sharpness at any aperture – amazing, Smaller, lighter and better than the original, De-clickable aperture ring and two Fn buttons, Fast, highly responsive and silent AF

Smaller than its predecessor but still a big lens, F1.4 not F1.2, which is slightly disappointing, Focus breathing is suppressed but still there, Some cats-eye bokeh wide open
Like many others I have been waiting years for the mark 2 version of this lens. I am very impressed with it for portriats, action and landscapes.
I bought this lens having loved a 90mm Lieca lens when shooting film and have no regrets. It is amazingly sharp, great for landscapes and portraits, handles difficult lighting extremely well and very light weight.
Pleased I waited for the new version of this lens which is lighter and gets better reviews on image quality. Very clean and crisp lens, very quick auto-focus. Quite expensive but I prefer to stay with the G and GM lenses.

I bought the first 85 GM years ago, but it was always a bit slow to focus. The new 85mm GM II is much faster, and has lost a bit of weight around the middle, too. If you want an A1 or A9 to run at its blistering best, this is the 85mm lens you need.

Just had this lens for a few days. Already my "go to" prime lens.
