I am a birder who frequently takes others out to see birds, and I do not have unlimited resources to support my birding and photography. After reading the reviews here and at other online sites, I decided to go with the Vortex Razor HD scope.

Bought from OP in December 2015 after a three-year search and comparison. As a frequent birder, all the way want a no-fancy spotting scope of 80-82mm diameter yet not too pricey. Compared brands commonly used by fellow Hong Kong birders, those typically from Japan, Austria, Germany etc, with prices...

I've had my Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 angled spotting scope for a few months already and cannot be more pleased with the quality and ease of use. First, the optics are brite, clear, super resolution, bringing distant birds into sharp focus.

I was torn between buying this scope and the Celestron 100mm FD Regal so I bought both. The Vortex has been highly regarded and cost more than 2 times the price of the Celestron so I was expecting its performance to be significantly better than the Vortex.In a nutshell I was extremely disappointed...

Product Description
Made to the absolute highest standards the Razor HD 20-60x85 Straight Spotting Scope from Vortex delivers the pinnacle of sport optic performance available today. The Razor HD starts off with an apochromatic triplet objective lens system, which aims to precisely align renderings of all colors exactly within a single point. Employing extra-low dispersion glass within the objective, the apochromatic performance advantage is especially notable when you're sighting darker subjects cast in front of washed-out, bright backgrounds. This scenario occurs all the time when birdwatching and observing wildlife. Edges are crisp, and highlights well controlled.

Beyond optical brilliance, the Razor HD's functionality is beyond reproach. The included zoom eyepiece yields 20-60x magnification with an impressive apparent field of view at higher powers. Dual-ratio focusing, favored on many of the best, gets you roughly where you want in a jiffy and allows especially-refined fine tuning capacity. A side-mounted, removable peepsight helps get subjects in the scope's view, and the body's magnesium alloy construction, ArmorTek water & oil repelling coating on the eyepiece and objective, and argon purging keep it fully operational in all conditions for years to come.
