Startup darling Nest Labs is already in the lead with its industry-reinventing Nest Learning Thermostat. Lindsey Turrentine goes hands-on with the second generation of the popular thermostat to find out how much the device has improved.
Best for the smart home, but may be underutilized in many homes

Nest 3 was the logical pick when I needed a thermostat for the new underfloor heating system as a Nest 2 was already installed and controlling the radiators. The packaging and contents looked very similar to Nest 2, but the unit itself has a larger screen making the text and menu system easier to...
A supreme smart thermostat, but not necessarily the best Nest for you

The Google NEST is a very good product. It is easy to install and easy to set up. The phone app works very well. I am a little disappointed that the Nest does not interact with Amazon Alexa anymore. Lastly, the battery regularly drains within a two or three month period of use.
The thermostat is fantastic once you get it up and running. Install directions are seriously lacking, though. It produced and error message with a code, yet when we looked up the code in troubleshooting, no such code existed. We eventually had to YouTube.
Crazy easy to install and get running. Works great. One wrinkle you may need: When pairing the second unit, carry it down (or up) to the first installed unit so they can pair easier. I have a large house and they didn't like to pair 30 feet away.
I was able to lower my cooling costs this summer by installing this, which was very easy to do. It knows when I am not home, so raises the temperature setting in the house for when it doesn't need to be cooling it.
Nest is not compatible with Apple HomeKit and Google has not done anything to integrate it with Siri. Go read the reviews on Consumer Reports, other smart thermostats provide significantly greater energy savings.Nest has not done anything innovative since they were bought by Alphabet.
We love our Nest Learning Thermostat. We installed it right after we moved into our house and eventually ended up installing another one in our garage. It's so handy to check the temperature of the house as well as change the temp by telling Google.
So far so good. Installation was a bit challenging, but we got it done. Enjoy being able to set it on "Eco" when we are away from home, and being able to turn it on remotely. Also, not having to get out of bed to adjust the thermostat. It can easily been done on your phone.
Our new radiant heat floors came with simple thermostats that would overshoot the target temperature. Meaning by the time the air was at 70 degrees to turn off the thermostat, the floor was hot enough to keep the temperature rising to 75 degrees.
I bought two of these a few weeks back and replaced the old digital thermostats in my house. This is a really well-designed product and installation was obviously at the forefront of their design objectives. It was much easier to install than I feared it would be great.
I haven't had to hardly touch my thermostat to adjust the temp. The learning function works very well. Saves a ton of energy for me too. Highly recommend! Easy to use and control. I installed it myself in no time.
