Over the past decade or so, we’ve seen some significant evolutions in digital imaging. The gains made in still photography have been impressive, but what’s happened in the video world has been nothing short of monumental.

No image stabilization, Chintzy rear control dial
The GH5S is a highly specialized filmmakers' camera that makes few concessions to anything but this core purpose. An excellent sensor combined with high bitrate, 10-bit 4:2:2 capture means the results are hugely impressive.

Run-and-gun shooting, stills photography
The GH5S is a new addition to the Lumix flagship line-up that now includes three cameras: the G9 which aims at sports and wildlife photographers, the GH5 which offers the best of both worlds for hybrid shooters and the newly announced GH5S which is especially designed for filmmakers.
The low pixel count of the GH5S has paid dividends in both still image and video quality, particularly in difficult lighting conditions. However, the lack of sensor-based image stabilisation will force potential purchasers to consider whether – and how much – steadying they will need in the...
The Panasonic Lumix GH5S is easily one of the best digital cameras for low-light photography that we've come across, with impressive high-ISO performance. It also supports plenty of professional video formats and physical connectivity options, which would make it easy to integrate with most pro...

Continuous AF isn’t quick, Lacks in-body stabilisation, Low resolution sensor limits cropping prospects
The Panasonic Lumix GH5S is a specialist tool that isn't going to appeal to everyone, but stills photographers and especially looking videographers looking for the ultimate low-light camera will find a lot to like.
One look at the specs and you'll know if this camera is meant for you. There's no IBIS, Autofocus is an afterthought, and you're missing that "full frame magic" (seriously, you already own a speedbooster, you're not missing out on much more).
Fantastic camera! I just upgraded from the GH5 for this camera's low light abilities. Who knew such a small sensor could do so well in low light. 10MP still are pretty small but I honestly don't notice much difference in LR other than they seem a tad bit sharper actually.
Rating would have been a 5 star rating if there's no VFR issues.Upgraded from a GH4, love everything from the low light performance improvement to the 4k60p, 10 bit shooting modes, one big issue is the horrible horizontal noise you get when you use the Variable Frame Rate mode above 60fps.
Panasonic: We are expecting a software update for fixing the big noise problem in VFR (slow motion) all units have the same chrominance, luminance and horizontal pattern noise.
Oh wow! Just because Casey Neinstat had one doesn't mean anything.I tried it and just think its another GH5 really with a bigger sensor, like the older GH2.Still seeing noise in V-log and highlights blown out. Needs a firmware update as well for a Super 16 crop.
I own the GH5 and G9 and bought the GH5s specifically for low light video usage. It is quite amazing to see how far the technology has come. I remember not so long ago when micro 4/3 technology was lagging behind APS-C.
I have a history with Panasonic! I owned the Dvc7 (mini tape) camcorder in 2007, Panasonic Gh2 for 2 years, Panasonic Gh4 for3 years..I have always desired the low light capability of the full frame 5D mk2.. and the current Sony A7sII... looking to upgrade, it was between the Gh5 and Sony A7sII...
The more I get to know it, the more I love it. It really gives me so much more to play with with two extra stops. Rich and crisp images with fantastic color science.
It took me some time to pull the trigger as I own a GH5. But I'm glad I did. The GH5S is a killer upgrade to the GH5. The Dual ISO allows me to shoot in low lit receptions with lower noise and maximum dynamic range. The usability increase is worth the loss of the IBIS and the 6k anamorphic.
