The Panasonic Lumix S Pro 50mm F1.4 is a standard prime with few flaws, but it's is larger and priced higher than similar lenses for competing systems.

Quite sharp. Bright f/1.4 aperture. Minimal distortion. Focus clutch and aperture ring. Dust and splash protection.

Big for a 50mm. Expensive. Aperture ring doesn't de-click. No fluorine coat.
The Lumix S PRO 50mm f1.4 is a high-end prime lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras with the L-mount, such as Panasonic’s Lumix S1 and S1R bodies. One of the first three Lumix S lenses Panasonic chose to launch its full-frame system with, the S PRO 50mm f1.4 is unashamedly high-end with an...
I think what Panasonic is doing with the Panasonic 50mm f1.4 S Pro is pretty admirable. But as a system being targeted to the professional, I also wonder how this lens will do in terms of sales.
The Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4 is a professional lens and both knowledge and care are required to get the best out of it. We’d recommend experimenting with the various AF modes and customisable AF settings until you become accustomed to how the lens will perform in different shooting situations.
Panasonic set out to make the best 50mm lens that they possibly could for their new S series full-frame camera system, and the new Lumix S Pro 50mm F1.4 certainly doesn't disappoint, being fully deserving of the "reference lens" moniker that it has received.
I had not used a 50mm lens since I first started. These particular prime lenses were very tainted to me because they have always been soft in just about all brands. Sigma changed that with their 50mm Art but this LUMIX lens is on another level even from that.
I rented this lens for a wedding, I used it mostly for video with the DS1. By far the best lens Ive ever used, I shot a lot on 1.4 and my subjects were still incredibly sharp with silky smooth background.
This lens was supposedly built as the standard with which every new L lens should be measured by.. and I truly hope that's true. The quality from the build, to the color rendition, handling, and falloff is nothing short of stunning.
Rented this lens for a few weeks for a few shoots and, wow, this lens is sharp. Super sharp. It's heavy and big for a 50mm f1.4, but Panasonic was definitely going for superior sharpness with this lens - and they delivered. Incredible image quality.
Image quality with this lens is nearly indistinguishable whether youre shooting at f/1.4 or f/8. My shots are tack-sharp, yet bokeh and falloff are smooth and progressive. Autofocus is quick and quiet and the MF clutch with a linear focus scale is game-changing.
