This thing works as a back up boom, but it should never be considered as a primary. The joints WILL wear out and become inoperable with regular use. I was able to save my pennies and buy a professional grade boom, and the difference was extraordinary.
Same goes for me..... I bought one after reading the SOS review and liked it a lot.... for ac. guitar and also for performing on stage for my voice. So I bought another one.... great value and great sound. A lot of people seemed to be weird about some Rode mics but this is a real sleeper.
The only knock on this gem is that the screw threads which mount it to a shock mount is exceptionally long, and takes forever to cinch it tight. It's a minor annoyance. Other than that, it works well. The grip on the bottom 2' is a nice touch. Not all of them have that.
Solid setup. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! Very little forgiveness in the treads. This is my second one. For the price its great and solid build. I wouldn't want to hold it myself too long due to its weight but I usually have it on a light stand and holder, static.
The best part of the pole is cable management, meaning I don't have to worry about dangling cable. The pole collapses to 2'9'' for easy transport. Extends to max 10'.
I haven't used the more expensive options, but this one seems fine. Nice and sturdy. The twist locks are a bit weird but once you get the hang of them they work fine. Only problem is that it's supposed to allow internal routing of the XLR cable but every single cable I have has ends too large to fit...
Just really clear. Zero self noise and perfect for normal video recordingWell worth the $150
I bought this along with the NTG2 sound kit and it's a pretty good marriage so far. The only thing I can complain about is that every time I adjust it, I can hear a squeaking noise from the mic and shock mount. Maybe there's some sort of technique to prevent it from making any noise.
Great, but tightening sections could be easier to adjust.
My favorite boom pole.
