I tried everything to reduce ambient noise and hiss (+20db, disabling on-camera AGC... etc) but this mic just captures everything. I was using the Rode SmartLav+ before and was expecting better sound with this.
The only reason I give this mic a 4.5 and not a 5 is because the connection wire to camera was not very long at all and needed to buy an extension since I was actually setting the mic up closer than the camera was. Otherwise, performed great!
This microphone is light and easy to attach to my camera rig. It is incredibly silent in manual mode and picks up heavily in front (which is a good thing!). On full auto mode, the microphone does create some slight hum, but it is not bad enough to be noticeable to the average person.
This mic was very poorly designed. It requires a 9 volt battery but there is no indicator to show the battery power level. So you never know when to replace the battery. I bought a rechargeable 9 volt battery just to make sure I had a fresh battery for each show.
Great sound quality and optional feature of 2-track recording. Mandingo approves!
The sound from this mic is great, and it's so lightweight that it works well on gimbals any small cameras. But the plastic mount really isn't very good. I have had it for a few months and the weight of the mic (and working in the sun I guess?
THIS MIC IS GARBAGEall audio distorted beyond repairforget it
This mic is the worst. It just hosed my whole shoot. It added a ton of hum and high end noise. It should have been clean but instead it's a noisy mess, much much worse than the build in camera mic. What did you do to me Rode? betrayed
This is a tiny, mighty microphone. I have no complaints about the microphone. Something to watch out for is the cold shoe mount; it's pretty flimsy plastic. I work at a library and we check out camera kits to patrons, and the cold shoe came back broken with the first user.
