If you're looking for one of the best 2.5-inch SATA SSDs in terms of value and performance for the money, search no further than Samsung's SSD 870 QVO, a stellar followup to its first QLC-based outing.
-
+
Excellent price-to-performance ratio for a SATA-based SSD, Very fast 4K read and write speeds, Feature-rich Magician management software, 8TB version coming soon
-
-
Warranty is only three years, QLC's modest durability ratings make it less suited to heavy write duty
The Samsung 870 QVO SATA SSD offers great everyday performance combined with up to 8TB of capacity.
-
+
Great everyday performance, Up to a stupendous 8TB of capacity

-
150MBps writing after running out of SLC cache
EFD Software's HD Tune is described on the company's website as such: "HD Tune is a hard disk utility with many functions. It can be used to measure the drive's performance, scan for errors, check the health status (S.M.A.R.T.), securely erase all data and much more.

3-year warranty, Slow write performance after SLC cache fills
As mentioned above, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced SATA SSD drive for an upgrade or extra storage, the Samsung 870 QVO V-NAND SSD performs decently enough. Not only that, it is available in capacities of up to 8TB.
-
+
Decent performance for SATA III, Excellent performance with RAPID mode enabled, Higher capacities up to 8TB available, Easy to use data migration and drive monitoring software, Fairly reasonably priced compared to the competition
-
-
Pretty limited TBW for lower capacities, 8TB is pricey
Samsung wants to change that with their 870 QVO solid state drive. This drive combines Samsung's own MKX controller with 96-layer QLC NAND which enables capacities all the way up to 8TB.
-
+
– Great sequential performance, – Available up to 8TB
-
-
– Price, – SLC cache gets exhausted quickly, – Very low write performance once SLC cache is exhausted, – Only a 3year warranty
When it comes to digital storage, we’re in a time of accelerated technical advance. NVMe is the new kid on the block with blisteringly fast transfer speeds, which leaves the older style SSD looking a little slow by comparison.
-
+
Fast Transfer speeds, High capacity, Compatible with most systems
-
-
Slower than NVMe
Of course, speed and capacity aren't the only things the 870 QVO has to offer. Along with support for Samsung's Intelligent TurboWrite technology, the drive features AES 256-bit full disk encryption and is compliant with both the TCG Opal 2.0 and IEEE 1667 specifications.

Write speed drops considerably when SLC cache is full, Lower endurance than many TLC NAND-based SSDs
Samsung's 870 QVO SSD was released earlier this month. It is one of the first consumer solid-state drives to offer capacities ranging up to 8 TB, which is important in achieving parity with mechanical HDDs.
-
+
Good synthetic test results, Low cost per GB, 2 TB, 4 TB, and 8 TB variants available
-
-
Very low real-life performance, Way too expensive, Horrible write rates when SLC cache is exhausted, Inconsistent performance, 3-year warranty, competitors offer 5-year, Small SLC cache
The new 870 QVO is nothing new in storage and/or performance. PErformance shows many similarities towards the 860 QVO, and often even a tiny notch lower. This however might be a result of a platform test setup change. So what is the 870 QVO series all about then?
i use the 8tb ssd as an external drive. i first set it up with a usb 3.0 external enclosure. the disk worked fine.i purchased a usb 3.1 external enclosure, actually 3 different brands. when i use this for my ssd, windows 10 only recognizes the first 2tb.
This drive is one of the faster SSD SATA drives and fairly new model manufactured less than a few months ago (June, 2021). I'm using it as an external backup in a USB 3.1 drive enclosure so it doesn't transfer as fast as it would inside a computer but with a Laptop, SATA wont fit so USB backup is my...
I bought this because my computer tech guy said it is the best out there he actually recommended the 870 EVO but that was not available. He walked me through the installation and then transferred all my files and documents over to this drive.
Replaced the hard drive in my 10 plus year old desktop with this SSD about 4 weeks ago. It is the most dramatic improvement I ever have made to a computer. Connected the SSD in place of the DVD/CD player. Used Samsung Migration software to clone the hard drive.
Since SSD has no moving parts, they make no noise. They only run 5 Volts so there is no heat build up and less power drawn. This small 2.5" drive replaced an old 3.5" 1TB Hitachi. The Hitachi HDD has been in there with a stamp May 2010.
This hard drive replaced a traditional 7200 rpm hard drive of the same size. The speed increase has been amazing. If you're on the fence- I'd recommend to just pull the trigger.
- 2nd generation 4-bit MLC technology that delivers fast read/write speeds of 560/530 MB/s*
- Simply plug in the 870 QVO into a SATA slot and let the updated migration software take care of the rest.
- Keep your SSD in check with Samsung Magician 6.1 software.
