For the SRH840A Shure promise full bass, detailed midrange and a wide-ranging treble reproduction. The first two of these points were confirmed in our practical test. The overall warm and powerful sound characterises the reproduction of these headphones.
A minor but significant upgrade to a home studio staple, the Shure SRH840A are some of the better-looking affordable reference headphones around. They’re tonally flat enough for monitoring and enjoyable enough for casual or critical music listening – but the 3m cable means they’re not ideal for...

Flat enough for mastering use, A better-looking, more practical design than the previous version, Enjoyable enough to use as all-round home headphones, These Shure SRH840A make good home studio headphones, particularly if you don’t want a pair that largely ignores the enjoyment of the actual...

Low-mid bump affects separation and dimensionality, Single semi-proprietary 3m cable limits their versatility, With no wireless support and a single 3M cable, the Shure SRH840A aren’t great all-purpose headphones.
The Shure SRH840 are excellent all-round home headphones that are superb value at £120-odd. Well-made, and with sound lets them switch between roles as a monitoring tool and more relaxed listening buddy with ease, they’re highly flexible as long as you keep them indoors – they’re just a bit too big...

Not light, Large, Some design quirks
I bought these headphones to mix with and they are great for that. During regular listening they can be harsh in the highs on some songs but these headphones are very balanced. The build quality is great but the only problem that I have with them is the coiled cable.
A lot more comfortable than the stock M50 earpads but not as thick as the Brainwavz HM5 pads which drastically alter the sound signature of the M50sThey wont fig snug though, so you'll have to "shrink-wrap" the pads with a heated bread knife onto the M50 or use a slim rubber band
These phones have been getting a lot of use since receiving them. I am hearing more subtle nuances in music than ever before. The high end is crisp without being harsh and the low end is earthshaking without being "muddy". The vocals are also clearer.
Fits the Audio-technicas very well, extremely soft and very comfortable.
The sound is top notch. Comparable to headphones costing hundreds more. Bass:The bass on these is excellent. These are not basshead headphones, and are not designed to be, so they wont add a layer of bass to the song/movie/game that is not there by the studio/artist.
I had purchased Shure's SRH440 headphones, and was happy with everything except the stock earpads. On the recommendation of a few websites I purchased these replacement pads for the SRH840, and I instantly loved them.
I'm going to keep this brief because in the end you have to listen to headphones for yourself to decide. But these sound amazing. Compared to the Sennheiser HD-595s these are way better. Compared to my Mackie monitors these are better.
Great quality and value for money
Happy with the sound and fit. They seem sturdy and the cable feels durable.
Great bit of kit very pleased with my purchase
