The Ray is the smallest, most affordable soundbar that works with any Sonos multi-room system, but it's a bit too pricey for its bass-light performance and relative lack of features.
-
+
Clean, clear audio with strong dialogue reproduction, Generates large sound field for its size, Works with other Sonos speakers in both home theater and multi-room setups
-
-
Limited bass response, Stereo-only imaging, Limited to optical audio wired connections, No voice assistant features
The Sonos Ray is an affordable, high performing soundbar that acts as a starting point for those wanting to join the Sonos ecosystem. It lacks a few of the niceties of its higher end siblings like Dolby Atmos support to keep costs down and bass isn’t as beefy as its more powerful and pricier...
-
+
Exceptionally easy setup and integration with TV and other Sonos gear, Useful Dialogue Enhancement and Night mode, Good sound quality for price
-
-
Trueplay feature still needs an iPhone to work, No Dolby Atmos, No builtin microphones for voice assistant support
The new $279 Sonos Ray is the company’s most affordable soundbar yet, and it has two core purposes. The first, like any entry-level soundbar, is to free you from having to listen to your TV’s atrocious built-in speakers.
-
+
Fantastic dialogue clarity, Balanced, crisp sound that surpasses many budget soundbars, Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2 support
-
-
No HDMI connectivity, Might not work with your TV’s remote, Stereo audio lacks immersion
The Sonos Ray is another excellent product from Sonos, but as you would expect, it’s not without compromises. I see the biggest of those the fact that it relies on an optical port instead of HDMI, which introduces all kinds of complications around remote control and interoperability.
Sonos' entry level smart soundbar put to the test
-
+
Neat, tidy, and nicely finished, Direct, detailed sound, Wider system integration, Easy setup
-
-
Not a particularly big sound, Treble is reticent, HDMI option would be nice, No Dolby Atmos
2012 has called: They want their soundbar back!
-
+
Clear dialogues, wider sound than the size suggests, Cheap ticket to the Sonos system.
-
-
No HDMI, Lacks power and dynamics, Lame bass, Wireless subwoofer is expensive, No Dolby Atmos.
Sonos went a bit further downmarket recently with the Ray , a smaller and cheaper soundbar than the Beam, itself a smaller, cheaper soundbar than the Arc. But while the Ray performs well, it doesn’t quite earn its premium and leaves one feeling that they should have just gone for something bigger.
Good compact soundbar for small living rooms
-
+
Good immersion and sound quality performance overall for movies, games and especially music
-
-
Obsessively requires the Sonos app to pair, no factory reset instructions (lol) if you need it, and the remote control volume setup is a bit complicated
Sonos has just unveiled their most affordable soundbar yet, and it looks like it packs a punch.
The Sonos Ray is the cheapest and smallest soundbar in the company's lineup.
Even if not comparable to beam or arc from a surround point of view it's a great product and it performs well either listening to music or playing pc games, it is as expandable as any other sonos product and it has airplay compatibility

It needs more bass
Great product. The sound is perfect specially for my small apartment. I use it with my tv and wirelessly to listen music from my smartphone. The setup is really easy and it's nice to have some controls directly on the device. Very happy with it.

Easy to Set Up, Superior Sound
Ray is impressive for its size. The sound quality is insanely good for a product this size. Also, talking about the size it's a good thing for smaller spaces. Compared to the Beam I had before, it is the same or maybe slightly better.

Easy to Set Up, Superior Sound, Wireless
This is a product with a very good sound quality, for a reasonable price. This is the perfect sound device to add to all your TVs that have no external speakers yet.

This unit is perfect for an apartment or someone who doesn't want to get drawn into spending $$$! Only draw back for me is it doesn't detect the I.R remote on my TCL t.v.
