The Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G is a small lens with a featherweight build, splash protection, and exemplary optics.
-
+
Small, light build, Dust and splash protection, Outstanding resolution, Function button and aperture control, Quick, quiet autofocus, Full-frame sensor coverage, Declickable aperture ring
-
-
Shows some focus breathing, Omits anti-smudge fluorine, Cramped controls
The Sony FE 50mm f2.5 G is a compact standard prime lens that aims for portability but also delivers on quality, even mounted on modern high-res bodies with the aperture wide-open.
The Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 is very close on focal length to similarly compact FE 40mm f/2.5 launched at the same time. Why would you want both? You probably wouldn’t, so it really comes down to which focal length you prefer.
-
+
Superb image quality, Very small, very light, Fast and silent autofocus, Declickable aperture ring
-
-
Not fast for a 50mm, No focus distance scale
As I said at the beginning of this review, the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G is a highly attractive, ultra-compact prime lens that features an extremely light weight and a rugged metal exterior construction.
Let me repeat my words from the summary of the FE 40 mm f/2.5 G model – Sony would have increased the interest in the G series trio, presented in March 2021, if only their focal lengths had differed a bit more.

+
solid and sealed mechanical construction,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, practically zero lateral chromatic aberration,, moderate distortion,, properly corrected coma,, negligible astigmatism,, moderate vignetting on the APS-C...
-
-
some problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, high vignetting on full frame,, exorbitant price.
very good lens but the lens hood was missing from the delivery packagenow understand that it is an extra add-on despite being noted on your web site as being included?it would have been 5 stars if the hood had been included
