No Built-in Viewfinder, No External Viewfinder Option, Slow Continuous Shooting: 1.0fps
The Sony FX30 is a 4K/120p-capable Super35 / APS-C cinema camera that wants to take the battle to the likes of Panasonic's GH series.
Sony just released a new cinema camera and its not full frame. The Sony FX30 has a 26MP sensor, dual base ISO, 5-axis in-body image stabilization, Eye AF and Object Tracking AF. It outputs 16-bit raw out the HDMI and has an optional grip with XLR input built in.
It’s an affordable entry-point to Sony’s Cinema line-up with an APS-C sensor, but exactly what does the Sony FX30 offer filmmakers? Richard Sibley finds out.

Expensive and less common CF Express Type A Cards, No 6K option
The FX30 may be at the entry level of Sony’s Cinema Line offerings, but it's without doubt the brand’s best value option for video content creators. It's perfectly suited to ‘run and gun’ videographers or those working on their own, while its video quality and image capture options make it a true...

No viewfinder, Smaller sensor than FX3, Form factor may not be for everyone
With the FX30, Sony has extended its cinema line all the way down to reach those just entering the world of cinematic video production. It provides a massive step up in production quality for those looking to make the switch from a smartphone.
The FX30 is a great entry (or re-entry) into Sony's cinema line for filmmakers. It's a great run-and-gun option with professional features and professional quality.
I have had the FX30 for about a week and I can say that as we could well infer, it is a mini FX3, a sensor with the quality of an a6600, but with a hard treatment to perform to the maximum of the standards of the Sony cinema line.
I needed quality video for my sports images and Collector Car videos. The FX30 and aspc lenses provides the perfect size camera for travel and delivers excellent imaging!
Hi I love the new Sony FX 30 cinema camera. It fits in well but what I do I have shot over 15,000 music videos and some documentaries and short films and I always wanted a camera like this just for cinema.
Most happy with the RX30. I put it to use right away shooting a documentary film.
Yet again another fine product from Sony. Very happy to add this to my A7rii and a6300. Bought this specifically to push myself into more film making and I’m glad I did. This camera is a full featured film camera that delivers excellent quality.
The camera is good but dont have raw system the most important thing in the film industry you have a great name Sony but you have to know if you make the decision to make this products new cinema line in your brand tell me the reason your don't introduce in the camera system now i have to buy...
